I’m René Seindal, and my main occupation is History Walks Venice.
The Venetian Stories podcast is a side project of my history walks.
Venice has been my home since 2008. I live in the Via Garibaldi area with my Venetian wife and our two rescue dogs.
My formal education is from the University of Copenhagen, from where I have an M.A. in History and Italian (1994). My master’s thesis on the Sicilian mafia was published in both Danish and English.
I have since acquired the qualification as an authorised tour leader — accompagnatore turistico — which allows me to do the history walks in the city of Venice.
What brought me to Venice, however, was the silly idea of kayaking the canals. That ended up been a commercial enterprise, which lasted until 2019.
I therefore know the city better by the canals, and if it happens that I get lost, I head to the nearest bridge, to figure out where I am 🙂
You can contact me by email at rene@venetianstories.com, or as described on the History Walks Venice websites.

The intro music
The music at the start and end of each episode is a Pavana alla Veneziana, composed by Joan Ambrosio Dalza, and published in 1508 by Ottaviano Petrucci. A Pavana is music for a slow processional dance, which was quite popular in the early Renaissance.
It is performed by Angelo Branduardi, from the album “Futuro Antico V — Musica della Serenissima“.
